'Barchords' - Bahamas

As this is my very first post on thischarmingmusicblog, I thought I'd review an album that I've recently fallen in love with.

'Barchords' is an album released earlier this year by Bahamas, a Canadian country/folk band consisting of vocalist Afie Jurvanen (former guitarist for Feist), drummer Jason Tait, and two female background vocalists that give the album a warm, tropical feel.

One stand-out track from the album is 'Okay, Alright, I'm Alive', a cheeky, upbeat piece with great lyrics like: 'every time the phone rings, I run. Every time George sings 'here comes the sun'...'. It's slow to start but will without a doubt become one of your favourites. And a song containing a Beatles' reference can't be bad, can it?

However, don't be fooled into thinking the whole album is as cheery and feel-good as that track; there are plenty of other songs guaranteed to leave you teary-eyed and desperate to give Afie a hug. 'Overjoyed' is particularly touching, Afie's tender and honest rendition making it one of the best tracks on the album.

With gorgeous, woozy vocals accompanied by simple yet charming guitar riffs, this album could be your soundtrack to the eagerly awaited summer.

You can buy 'Barchords' here.
