'POP ETC' - POP ETC

'POP ETC' is the latest album from POP ETC, a band formerly known as The Morning Benders. Their previous album, Big Echo, is a mix of sunny melodies and charming ballads, however following the band's recent transformation, 'POP ETC' is an altogether new sound.

The self-titled album is hugely influenced by R&B and pop artists that the band grew up loving, yet is something entirely different to the typical R&B sound you'd expect. If anything, POP ETC are reinventing pop and R&B music as we know it. The track 'Halfway to Heaven', a song about money, parties and excessive lifestyles, contains the line "it seems like your chain is wearing you down" - boldly confronting the stereotype pinned to most R&B artists. 'Why'd You Do It Honey' is another stand-out track; sad, melancholy vocals equipped with a powerful chorus.

It's difficult to place one genre on POP ETC's music, and that's not a bad thing. The band have accomplished the difficult task of creating pop music that you can enjoy without feeling guilty. While it'll probably be strange for old fans to hear this new material, there's no denying that POP ETC have successfully gone through the testing 'genre changing' transition and have come out with something pretty special.

You can listen to a streaming of the whole album here.
