Madness at The Roundhouse

On Thursday 27th September, lucky ticket winners poured into Camden's Roundhouse where Madness would be playing a show for the iTunes festival.
Sheffield rock band Reverend and The Makers opened for the band, warming up the previously lukewarm crowd with hits such as 'Heavyweight Champion of the World' and 'Bassline'.

At around 9pm, the lights dimmed and a knowing cheer erupted from the crowd. Madness sauntered onstage suited and booted, launching almost immediately into 'One Step Beyond'. The audience, dotted red with fezzes that fans had worn in honour of the band, then spent the next hour and a half jumping and 'dad-dancing' to a setlist that flaunted tracks right from the band's conception to their most recent material. Newer tracks, such as 'Death of a Rudeboy' were well received by all and there wasn't a disappointed fan in sight.
The best part of the gig was towards the end, when the crowd embraced the band (and each other) for a huge group rendition of the classic 'It Must Be Love'.
If you are one of the few who believe that, after a music career spanning almost 30 years, Madness must have lost 'it' - you couldn't be more wrong.
